The Global Social Business Summit travels to Asia for the first time.

The Global Social Business Summit 2013 was held in Kualalumpur, Malaysia from the 7th-9th of November 2013 in partnership with myHarapan and the YY Foundation.
We had 580 participants from 40 countries registered to the Global Social Business Summit 2013.
The theme of the Global Social Business Summit, 2013 was “SOCIAL BUSINESS TO CHANGE THE WORLD BY CHANGING INDIVIDUALS, COMMUNITIES,VILLAGE, CITIES AND COUNTRIES.”
In 2013, the focus was on the role that individuals, communities, villages, cities and countries can play in impacting their environments through social business. Our ambitious aim is to transform 1 % of the total economy of a city, a province, or a country as a social business economy in the next five years.
The speakers of the Summit included leaders from both public and private sectors including, Dr. Fatima al Balooshi, Minister of Social Development Bahrain, Eric Lesueur, Projects Director Veolia Environnement, Antonio da Conceicao, Minister of Commerce, Industry & Environment East Timor, Gilbert Mbesherubusa, Vice President Operations African Development Bank
Erin Pham Steinhauer, Head of Corporate Responsibility Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle
East and Africa Visa Inc among many others.
To summarize the outcome of the GSBS 2013 here is an overview of all announcements made in the plenary: * Announcement of a RM 20 million social business fund (6,5 Mio USD) in Malaysia by Prime Minister Mohammad Najib Razak. * Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Veracruz and Yunus Social Business to set up a SB fund of USD 4.5 million in Veracruz. * Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Fifco and Yunus Social Business to set up a SB called Nutrivita. * Announcement of the partnership between myclimate and Yunus Social Business to set up a SB fund for climate related issues. * Announcement of the partnership between The Grameen Creative Lab and the City of Berlin. * Announcement of the partnership between Fairwind and the SB fund Nepal supported by Chaudhary Group. * Tan Sri Vincent Tan pledged USD 1 Mio to start social business in Malaysia. * Announcement of Mexico City to host the Global Social Business Summit 2014 from November 13-15.
The 1st GSBS Research Conference on Social Business will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 5th & 6th November 2013 to coincide with the 5th annual Global Social Business Summit. During the first four summits, we have progressed from having a meeting of academics through to specific pre-conference Academia Meetings in 2011 and 2012, and encourage participation of those who have contributed to these events so far.
